VeRoLog: A new EURO Working Group

E-mail Print PDF

The purpose of the EURO Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization is to constitute an aggregation and reference point for the rich and active research community to advance the development and application of Operations Research methods, techniques and tools to the field of Vehicle Routing and Logistics. The Groups meetings will encourage the exchange of information among practitioners, users, and researchers in the area of Vehicle Routing and Logistics, stimulating the work on new and important problems with sound scientific methods. Moreover its members and specific meetings/workshops will actively promote the interest on Vehicle Routing and Logistics in the most important scientific journals by proposing and editing special and contributed issues. Finally, the group will also facilitate the networking activities that are crucial for the proposition of successful international research and industrial projects.

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new Working Group within EURO (Association of the European Operations Research Societies) on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization (VeRoLog) and invite all of you to become active members.

Vehicle Routing optimization is at the core of Logistics and Supply Chain Management as well as people Transportation activities, and is a very active research area in Operations Research that sees a strong contribution from a large number of researchers working in European Universities, Research Centres and Companies.

The vitality of the Vehicle Routing research community, and particularly of the European one, is witnessed by the constant and large presence of Vehicle Routing and Logistics related sessions and talks at all major conferences in Operations Research, many of which are authored by European researchers. On the practical side a large number of companies are employing and developing logistics management tools that incorporate routing optimization algorithms. The yearly survey on Vehicle Routing software published in OR/MS Today lists some tens of worldwide-distributed Vehicle Routing packages some of which are produced by European companies.

The Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization will organize an annual meeting starting in 2012 open to group members and scientists from all over the world with talks by researchers and practitioners. Meeting organization and structure will favour the large participation of group members and best submitted papers will be collected into high quality volumes.

Some short workshop on specific topics could also be organized.

The meeting organization will coordinate with Europe-based conferences like ODYSSEUS, as well as other international conferences like TRISTAN in order to reduce overlaps. The working group will actively promote the participation of its members to EURO conferences, by collaborating with the programme committee, favouring the submission of sessions and possibly proposing relevant speakers.

The group will also send out regularly a newsletter informing the members of activities relevant to the group and with invitations to meetings.

The EURO Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization  is coordinated by
