CFP TAAI 2011 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence

E-mail Print PDF

The 2011 Conference on Technologies and Applications of Artificial Intelligence (TAAI 2011) is the 16th annual conference sponsored by the Taiwanese Association for AI and one of the most important annual academic meetings on Artificial Intelligence in Taiwan. Last year, TAAI has attracted more than 200 people with a great success. This year, TAAI will be in conjunction with the third Asia Conference on Machine Learning (ACML 2011) to be co-located in Taoyuan, Taiwan and will feature more than five invited speakers/tutorials and computer game tournament as well.

CFP SLS 2011 - Engineering Stochastic Local Search Algorithms

E-mail Print PDF

This is the third edition of the SLS Algorithms Engineering workshop. As in previous editions, the main goal of SLS 2011 is to provide a forum for the discussion of methodological issues that arise in the design, implementation, tuning and experimental evaluation of effective heuristic algorithms. SLS 2011 welcomes high quality contributions that focus on such issues and that cover any type of stochastic local search methods. The workshop will take place on 15-17 September 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.

CFP Second Workshop on Intelligent Metaheuristics for Logistic Planning

E-mail Print PDF

The intelligent approach for solving the real problems that arise in logistic planning includes the use of metaheuristics. The metaheuristics are described as intelligent since they incorporate machine learning tools, use short, medium and long term, memory, include self-adaptation of their parameters to the context, incorporate expert knowledge in improving their performance, etc. These and other features of the metaheuristics makes them increasingly important in the decision aid systems in the planning of logistics activities, at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. The real problems facing the managers of the logistics activities have relevant special characteristics that recommend the use of metaheuristics and research on best way to implement them. Meeting will be held in La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain on November 7-11, 201.

CFP Special issue Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing: Metaheuristics on GPU

E-mail Print PDF

The Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing is directed to those who have particular interests in parallel processing and/or distributed computing. The Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing publishes original research papers and timely review articles on the theory, design, evaluation, and use of parallel and/or distributed computing systems. The special issue is devoted to publications on the use of GPUs  in  metaheuristics,  both in discrete  and  continuous optimization.  The issue is open to the entire international research community.

CFP - GECCO 2011 Workshop on Scaling Behaviours of Landscapes, Parameters and Algorithms

E-mail Print PDF

All too often heuristics and meta-heuristics require significant parameter tuning to work most effectively. Often this tuning is performed without any a priori knowledge as to how good values of parameters might depend on features of the problem. This lack of knowledge can lead to lot of computational effort and also has the danger of being limited to only problem instances that are similar to those that have been seen before. The aim of the workshop is to develop methods to give deeper insight into problem classes, and how to obtain and exploit structural information. In particular, we often would like to be able to tune parameters using small instances (for speed) but then adjust so as to be able to run on large instances. This will require some theory of how to extrapolate tuning outside of the size or features of the training set. An analogy is the difference between non-parametric and parametric statistics; the former does not assume any underlying probability distribution and the latter can (for example) assume a Gaussian. Naturally, the latter might give stronger results and with smaller sized samples. Hence, to distinguish this from standard parameter tuning, we might call this -Parametric Parameter Tuning-. Of course, this is a challenging problem; but we hope to be able to discuss any existing work and how the community might meet the challenge.
