BNP Paribas Fortis Chair on Transport, Logistics and Ports
The significance of the port and maritime sector is
increasing in a globalising world. Hence the need for knowledge concerning
new and future developments. A lead in knowledge strengthens the competitive level
in science as well as in society and business.
On 3 and 4 May 2018, the Special Interest Group A2 (Ports and
Maritime) of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS),
co-chaired by Thierry Vanelslander (University of Antwerp TPR/TransportNET) and Enrico Musso (University of Genova / TransportNET), will host a two-day international conference
under the title "Key developments in the port and maritime sector".
It will be held at the Department of Transport and Regional Economics of the
University of Antwerp.
The conference is a preparatory event to the 2019 WCTR
conference in Mumbai, and is a follow-up of similar SIGA2 conferences in 2009, 2012 and 2015.
It will present a state of the art of scientific developments which are of
use to academicians, sector practitioners and policy-makers. It features a rich
selection of papers made after the abstract submission process. Selected
submissions originate from both academic, business and policy responsibles active in the maritime and port field, and
deal with topics that can be considered to be at current a key development in
the port and maritime business, either at management, operational or policy
The conference website can be viewed here.
The Special Interest Group is an active unit of the WCTRS.
The framework of the conference lays in the preperation
of the 15th World Congress that will take place in 2019 in Mumbai. After
the Antwerp conference, the presented papers will be collected in special
journal issues and opportunity will be given to elaborate on program building
for WCTR 2019.
