of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Coleophora binderella (Kollar, 1832)

A rare species in Belgium.

The young larva creates its case from a portion of the leaf and can be found on Alnus, Betula, Carpinus and Corylus, and mining the leaf from beneath. The leaf fragments are untidy attached around the case, which is typical for this species. It hibernates in the case attached to a leaf or twig.

The adults fly during June and July.
