of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Coleophora hydrolapathella M. Hering 1921

In 1988, the first specimens of this species were trapped in our country. A local and very rare species in Belgium, only known from the province of Antwerpen.

The larva feeds from a reddish brown, tubular case made entirely of silk on flowers and seeds of Rumex hydrolapathum. When the larva is full-fed, it attaches its case to the stem of his foodplant and hibernates.

The adults fly in one generation a year: from June towards early August.
