of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Coleophora limosipennella (Duponchel, 1843)

An uncommon species in Belgium.

The larva feeds from a case on Ulmus. During their development, the larva makes several cases and the final case is fairly distinctive with a serrated upper edge and affixed in an angle of between 0° and 20° to the long axis, so that the case is fixed almost parallel to the leaf. Hibernates as a small larva.

The adults fly in one generation a year; during June and July. They come to light.

Belgium, Hainaut, Antoing, 17 May 2007.
