of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Eupithecia venosata (Fabricius, 1787)

A very rare and local species in Belgium. Most observations are from the south of the country.

The larva lives in the seed capsules of Silene maritima (at the coast) or Silene vulgaris (rest of the country). Hibernates as pupa among plant debris, sometimes twice.

The adults fly from May till early July. They come sparsely to light.

Belgium, Namur, Wavreille, 24 June 2005.
