of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Euclidia mi (Clerck, 1759)

A rather common species throughout Belgium. Numbers vary much over the years.

The larva lives on various species of herbaceous plants including Trifolium, Lotus, Medicago and different species of Gramineae like Dactylis glomerata. Hibernates as a pupa in a cocoon formed among grass blades or just beneath the ground.

The adults fly in one generation a year; from late April till late July. Sometimes a partial second generation occurs till late August. They are active during the day.
