of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Sideridis rivularis (Fabricius, 1775)

A widespread but not so common and local species in Belgium.

The larva lives inside the seed capsules of Silene or Lychnis. Hibernates as a pupa in a fragile cocoon just beneath the soil surface.

The adults fly in two, sometimes three generations a year; onwards from late April towards late September. They come to light.
