Sesia apiformis (Clerck, 1759)

Common throughout Belgium.

The larva bores into the stem of Populus sp., especially Populus nigra. Hibernates as larva two or three times.

The adults have been observed from mid May till mid August. They sit in early morning sunshine low on the tree-trunks.
