of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Tineola bisselliella (Hummel, 1823)

Uncommonly observed in Belgium, but probably overlooked in many places.

The larva lives on wool, fur, hair and various material of animal origin. It constructs a silken tube and pupates in a spindle-shaped cocoon.

The adults have been observed from February till October. Often found indoors.

Belgium, Antwerpen, Mortsel, 09 June 2004.
