Epinotia ramella (Linnaeus, 1758)

A common species throughout Belgium.

The caterpillar lives in a twig or a catkin of Betula spp. The species hibernates in the egg stage.

The adults fly from the end of July till mid October. They fly at dusk and come to light.

There is also another frequent form called 'costana' with the forewing almost entirely suffused with blackish brown, except a narrow area along the costa towards the apical spot. See More pictures
