of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Epinotia rubiginosana (Herrich-Schäffer, 1851)

A local species in Belgium, mainly observed in the northern provinces.

The larva constructs a tubular spinning on Pinus sylvestris or Pinus pinea. It leaves this habitation to feed on the adjacent needles. Pupation takes place during the spring amongst leaf-litter on the ground.

The adults fly from mid May till August. They fly about the tops of the trees in afternoon sunshine till dusk and later come to light.
