Rhyacionia pinicolana (Doubleday, 1849)

A common species throughout Belgium.

The larva feeds in a shoot of Pinus sylvestris. It pupates in a silken cocoon covered with frass in the larval feeding place. The species hibernates in the egg stage.

The adult flies from the beginning of June till mid August. The adults are active at dusk and come to light.
